Naturalist/Educator
Educate the public about an integral part of Westchester County’s natural world. Westchester County Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation, a Nationally Accredited Parks System, has several Naturalist/Educator seasonal job opportunities available at various locations. These facilities provide an educative experience for visitors through its missions, public programming and events in addition to a number of school and scout groups and summer camps for students.
Responsibilities
- Assists with planning and implementing a variety of environmental interpretive programs for children and adults
- Assists with the development of lesson plans and leads educational programs for a variety of ages and abilities
- Assist in operation of special events and programs
- Assists in daily tasks around the museum and surrounding grounds
- Maintenance/cleaning duties as necessary
- Performs administrative tasks, such as attending meetings and trainings, preparing reports, and maintaining records
- Assist or teach summer camp groups from July through August
- Offers assistance and guidance to visitors
Qualifications
Applicants should possess a love of nature, a willingness to work outdoors, and the ability to communicate effectively.
- Minimum 18 years of age
- High School Diploma or GED
- Background Check and Pre-Employment Drug Testing required
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in natural or life sciences, natural history, park management, environmental education or a closely related field is preferred.
Hours/Salary
The position of Naturalist/Educator is an hourly position. Workdays vary, one weekend day is required. Salary range is $17.10 to $20 per hour; salary is commensurate with experience.
