Maintenance Worker
Once a working dairy farm, Alfred B. DelBello Muscoot Farm located in Somers, New York is an educational farm operated by the Westchester County Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation, a Nationally Accredited Parks System. Today, Muscoot Farm provides an educative experience for visitors through our historic buildings, over 50+ livestock and poultry, public programming and events.
Muscoot Farm is hiring a maintenance worker. We are seeking a maintenance worker to assist in grounds, landscape, and facility maintenance and livestock care.
Primary Responsibilities
- Perform grounds maintenance work: such as mowing grass, planting and pruning shrubs, mulching, weeding, operate farm tools and machinery.
- Assist with feeding and watering animals
- Clean stalls, pens and barns
- Assist with general vet care
- Repair fence lines and gates
- Perform janitorial duties across all farm facilities, such as vacuuming, mopping, and cleaning surfaces.
- Operate farm tools and machinery, including weed whackers, mowers, hedge trimmers, saws, and hand tools.
- Provide support with minor carpentry and vehicle repair tasks as needed.
- Work closely with management to address any issues on the farm, ensuring a positive and safe work environment for all team members.
- Assist other areas as needed and help maintain the overall cleanliness and upkeep of the farm.
Skills and Qualifications
Skills and Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working for an agricultural operation, park or veterinary office/clinic, or educational setting
- Ability and to work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform physically demanding task
- Ability to comfortably lift 50 lbs.
- General knowledge of using hand and ride-on equipment for various tasks
- General knowledge of livestock care/handling and/or ornamental crops is a plus
- Ability to communicate and interact with public with positivity
- Strong communication and organizational skills with attention to detail and flexibility.
- Basic carpentry skills are preferred.
- Preference will be given to those with experience in equipment operation, maintenance, and animal care, and educational backgrounds
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to pass a background check and drug test
- Minimum age: 18 years old.
Hours/Salary
The position of Maintenance Worker is a year-round, hourly position. Schedule is on a rotating basis and will include at least 1 day of weekend work.
Hours: 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Salary range: $17.10 - $20 per hour. Salary is commensurate with experience
